My Past |

| My
past is a troubled one I must say. I most certainly didn't have
the rosy childhood like some people.
When I was just 2 years old, my mother passed away due to heart problems. That same year, one of my sisters, Wendy Lou, died in a house fire when I lived in the small town of Fall River, just outside of Halifax. I have moved too many times in my life. I spent 4 years of my life in a little town called Walton in Hants County Nova Scotia. I lived there with my father, my sister Jodi, my half brother Robert, his mother Kathy (my dad's ex-girlfriend), and my dog Lady. My father was an alcoholic, but not a bad kind. He didn't abuse any of us, didn't even believe in spanking us. However, he wasn't the greatest with money and times were often hard for all of us. Kathy eventually got tired of it and took Robert and left us, moved away. My sister was dating a guy named Jeff, who wasn't the greatest guy in town. Shortly after, we moved about 20 minutes away to a town called Kempt Shore. We moved into a house with a store right next to it in the same complex. I liked it there. My father worked in the city in construction. My sister, 14, became pregnant and moved out. I was alone except my dog lady to keep me company. I spent many nights alone, too many really. I did manage to get myself up for school each day and I got my food on an account at the store so I looked after myself for the most part. It wasn't until one fateful night in June when the man who owned the complex and ran the store came at 11:00 p.m. and informed me Social Services was coming to take me away. I was scared of course, I locked every door and window and even the screen door but somehow they got in anyway. I remember waking up to two women shaking me and my dog barking at them. She actually bit one of the ladies' hand. i was taken to where my sister was living with her boyfriend and his mother. i was then placed in a foster home. They were very nice and loving and had a big farm. But, I wasn't happy there. I finished the sixth grade there. I was invited by my aunt and uncle and cousins to go camping with them at Dollar Lake. I was too eager to go. I wasn't supposed to be there more than 2 weeks i think, but I ended up being there longer. My relatives took upon themselves, after consulting the rest of the family, the task of legally adopting me. When September of that year rolled around, it was official. I spent six years living in Fall River with my relatives. My uncle was an alcoholic as well. He wasn't physically abusive either, he just ranted and raved about the silliest of things like whether the toilet paper roll was going over instead of under. I called my aunt mom because really, she was the only mother I have known. I didn't however, call my uncle Dad. This wasn't because I didn't think of him as a father but because my father was still among the living and I still could see him when I wanted to. I also refer to my cousins and my brothers and sisters. After graduating high school, I immediately moved out of the house and began to work at a small options group home in Dartmouth looking after the mentally and physically challenged. I trained to become supervisor and worked there for three years. I was also attending CompuCollege full time as well. I soon found it hard to do both without compromising so I gave my notice and focused on my education. In November, I started working for RGIS Inventory Specialists in Dartmouth, preparing inventories for major grocery and retail chains. I traveled to various parts of the province and New Brunswick. I graduated CompuCollege in June 1999 with a diploma in Accounting and Computer Applications. In June of 1999 I accepted a position as a payroll clerk for a small transport company in Ontario and worked there for two months. There was talk of bankruptcy so I decided to return to Halifax. And, here I am today.:) Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci taion ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex en commodo consequat.
